Odds and Ends

This is what we're doing right now. I took this pic with my laptop so it's not too good. We had a nice sit-down dinner (sadly, we don't do that enough). Everybody got a chance to talk about their day (which can become an exercise in patience because dear Liam, bless his heart, can tell a detailed story, I tell ya. lol) then afterwards, Josiah played baseball with them. I brought Aidan's playpen outside onto the patio so I could sit on the swing and work on my laptop. There's a nice breeze and the trees are rustling. I think I could sleep out here. lol It's getting ready to rain, though. I should do this more often with Aidan during the day. I need to get outside more. But lately, it has been getting hot and humid so I don't last too long. Best to stay inside with the AC. Although I have to break my dependency on it because when we move, it's not likely we'll have it. Better stock up on our allergy meds! :-)

Something I have been thinking seriously about is making money with my scrapbooking. I don't want to design kits or anything. There are enough wonderful designers in the digi world that I'd rather support. But I have been looking into some kind of freelancing..... ie: scrap for hire or making motivational posters for businesses or photo restoration or something. I love doing this and there just has to be a way for me to work it as a business. I've bookmarked a few websites with ideas and info regarding scrapbooking as a business.

I think my work is fairly decent. I know that I have improved greatly over the years and am really pleased with the end results. But the question is: is it business worthy? Sure, they look nice in my family's scrapbooks but do they look professional enough. I mean, would people really PAY ME for my work? That is the big question. All I can do is get it all set up and get the word out and see if there are any takers. I really can do everything right from my home and wouldn't have to send anything out. I have a wide format printer that is top quality, a good quality scanner that also scans negatives and everything else I need for editing on my laptop. Not to mention a professional camera if I need to do portraits. I have my husband to thank for all of this quality, high-tech equipment and for getting me started in Photoshop. Hm, guess he wasn't ALL bad. lol just kidding.

Well, gotta run. It's story time, then bed time, then MOMMY TIME! WhooHoo!! :-)

As somebody who has worked in the biz in the past, keep in mind that once it becomes your job, it's not nearly as fun anymore. For me, that wasn't working. Good luck and remember it's all how you market yourself!

Good luck! I just started designing word art so I totally know what you're going through! I would *love* to be able to be a photographer/scrapper4hire...but I have those same worries!! Happy Mother's Day!
