The Artist

Olivia's teacher came up to me after school to say that Olivia is quite good at drawing on the computer (but of course! she gets it honest! Okay, she gets it from her Dad. lol). She said that they are working on a project that involves drawing a picture pertaining to their families home state (this is the military, nobody's from here. lol). Since she was born in PA (and quite proud of that fact), she drew a picture of me standing by her in her crib. The teacher said that it was very detailed and good. She said that she already knew that Olivia was a good artist but didn't realize how well she could draw on the computer. Another teacher that is working with the class on this project was amazed at how well she was picking it up. That's our girl! :-)

Olivia has such an imagination and lots of stories in her head. In kindergarten, I remember her writing books for her teachers which consisted of pages of stories drawn on blank paper and then stapled together. I believe that she compensates for her reading disability by making her drawings very detailed. She tells her stories in her artwork to make up for the difficulty she has with writing it out.

Last night, during our story time, we read, "Amazing Grace". It's a story about a creative little girl who loves stories and whose family often said that she could be anything she set her mind to. We hadn't read that book for a couple of years but it was her assigned reading for class. I could see "light bulbs" going off in Livvy's head. She said, "My middle name is Grace" and I said, "And you can do anything that you set your mind to." She has an obstacle to overcome but she will overcome it and will become stronger in other areas in the process.
